The Two Lingering Questions I Have About A Star Is Born

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in “A Star Is Born.”

Dear Bradley Cooper,

Congratulations on an impressive job acting in, directing and writing A Star Is Born. I’ve been thinking about it ever since I saw it, which is one of the highest compliments I can pay a movie.

You’ll undoubtedly be nominated as best actor, possibly best director, and the movie is likely to be in the best picture mix.

Everybody is weighing in on the movie now. Some people say it’s anti-feminist (really a criticism of the franchise, not of you personally). Others are ranking the songs in the soundtrack (you come out well, although Neko Case was not impressed).

My main issues with the movie hinge on the script, which you wrote with Eric Roth and Will Fetters.

A Star Is Born has left me with two lingering questions, both of which I think you could have taken the time to answer.

SPOILER ALERT: READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN’T SEE THE MOVIE.

Of course, there was gossip in movie circles last summer that A Star Is Born needed a last minute edit to add chemistry between the two lead characters, and that you managed to pull it off.

So, perhaps the answers to my questions were simply deleted in the final edit to make things flow. Here goes.
